I AM BACK TO REVIVE THIS BABY OF OURS! I AM SO SORRY ABOUT NEGLECTING YOU BABYYYYYYY!Anyway, 3 weeks ago a Korean Indie group finally set foot in Malaysia annnnnnd I was there to watch it. It was amazing. So amazing I don't even know how to describe it. All I know is that I went really crazy, shouted a lot and got pissed at everyone that tried disrupting this experience.
Basically I discovered Idiotape about a week or 2 before Future Music and I was absolutely in love with that whole album. Obviously when I found out that they were going to be at Future I immediately started creating the perfect lie to convince my mum about letting me go. And it worked. So last minute but so worth the rush. It was one of the best live stages I've ever been to (even though I haven't been to a lot). Totally worth me running to the stage almost 20 minutes earlier because guess who got to be smack in the middle and all the way at the front. I swear the drummer's stamina is so crazy he just played for nearly an hour straight. Alsooooo managed to get myself in their little video thing (if you can spot me).
Seeing them live just makes me love their stuff even more now. I also realised that I always listen to them on Saturday nights ever since then. Maybe I was trying to relive the moment subconciously.
BUT HERE ARE SOME OF MY FAVOURITES BY THEM!
First song in the album, first song I heard of, first song I fell in love with and the song that made me fall in love with them.
Even Floor was only okay to me but OMG IT IS SO GOOD LIVE I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHY BUT IT JUST IS!
Ahh Melodie. Since this was the only song that had like a line in it, I decided to scream out the lyrics when they played it live and every one probably heard me. Good times.

Then SM decided to have this collab thing where they did collaborations with a few electronic artists that included GLEN CHECK AND IDIOTAPE! This remix has such a distinct Idiotape vibe to it but when I tried looking for a song in 11111101 that sounded similar to it I couldn't D:
I don't know how to describe it but their tunes are quite simple but it's still something that I've never heard of ever. Maybe that's why I love them a lot. I guess I now have another album to add to my list of albums to buy!

Oh snap yes I found more indie! I went a little crazy on the K indie hunting the past week thanks to Naz introducing me to Vodka Rain (I shall save them for a later date). I downloaded 8 albums.....yay?Okay. The Koxx....WHY DIDN'T I LIKE THEM EARLIER?! I've heard of them before quite a while back but I didn't really like their first ever song 'Troublemaker' so I didn't bother checking out their other stuff. Fast forward (or rewind?) to a few months back when their latest album Bon Voyage came out. I gave '사랑춤' a listen and I was like "Cooooooool!" but still didn't bother looking at their other stuff. It was not until 2 freaking days ago when I heard another song of their 'The Words' that I thought "Hey, not bad! Let's check out their other stuff!" and BAM HOLY MAMA WHAT HAVE I BEEN MISSING OUT! Proceed to download all their albums.
Oh yeah before I forget, you kinda have to...learn how to deal with Hyunsong's English....It's not really Engrish but more like his pronunciation? It doesn't make the band or songs less amazing though. One way to avoid going WTF IS HE SAYING is never to search the lyrics for the songs. I'm warning you okay because I did that for one of their other songs (T.O.R.I) and I kinda cringe everytime I listen to it because I cannot stand how he was pronouncing some of the words which is such a pity because I absolutely love the bass of that song! But I got used to it so...TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK!
사랑춤 (Love Dance) is quite the catchy tune. I really LOOOOOOOVE the guitar in this song. The video is so irrelevant, so random and so crazy.
The Words is like a totally different side of The Koxx. It's so slow and repetitive but so beautiful. And then it hits 5.13 mark and the feel of the song just changes and omg it's just so good.
Refuse is currently my favourite. I showed this to a few non Korean music loving friends
Oh how could I not include T.O.R.I. This is the song that suffered the most from Hyunsong's pronunciation. But like I said that doesn't make this song any less awesome!
They deserve more lovinggggg really! They are really the talented bunch with Hyunsong and Sooryun (

The other day, I was on a stroll through allkpop, and I came across a K-indie duo called "J-Rabbit" I looked them up on youtube, and I found various covers that they had done which I especially liked. They had a lot of their own songs, but for this post, I'll be talking about their covers. Alongside J Rabbit was a solo singer called leeSA. I don't know why they're not big in the industry, but I guess pop sells faster than indie does. It's a shame really, because their voices are just so melodic.Here are my favourites:

Today's indie artist would be more on the depressing sounding side. I'm not saying that they are all depressing songs but it's more on the slow and chilled side.So eAeon, the start of my korean indie music adventure. I was never into the Korean indie scene since all of the indie songs I heard before discovery him were those cutesy bunny stuff which weren't really my thing. But then bam! Discovered him and now I'm quite into Korean indie (well, the cutesy stuff are still a no for me. Sorry.)
This was the song that had drawn me into eAeon. This song starts of slow but at 1:30 the beat comes in and wooo wonderful things happen! The static-y kinda sound is also really interesting. And you know what I love best? THE MUSIC VIDEO! Why? Because it is a stop motion video DAVID HOCKNEY STYLE!! He is an artist for those who don't know who he is and he did some cubism photography that you guys should totally check out! Hehe sorry for being excited, it's just that I used him as an artist reference for my art exam last year. ANYWAY MOVING ON!
Bulletproof is not my favourite song by him though. 너는 자고 (You Were Sleeping or You Should Sleep. Something along those lines according to my Korean friend Joo Oh :D) has to be my favourite. Some of you might find it boring but I love repetitive stuff like this :P It has a bit of static sound in the chorus which Bulletproof had and it is so simple. Just guitar, bass and some finger snapping.
나의 기념일 (My Anniversary) is also another favourite. Simple and slow (and depressing sounding). Just what I love :D This song actually made me wanna learn how to play a guitar.
슬픈 마네킹 (Sad Mannequin) was the second song I heard from him and was what made me want to download the whole album.
Recently, Lena Park released an album and one song got me jumping in excitement because it was a collab with eAeon! Their voices are just so soothing. I loved their harmonizing too. Love! Been replaying it these few days.
Can't wait till he makes a comeback! But for now I will settle with Guilt-Free.

Before I start, I'm just gonna rant a bit here. Every time I try to show someone a song from Glen Check, they either go "Ew, I don't listen to Kpop." or "I don't even understand shit!". Even after I say it's not Kpop, they will go "Who are you kidding? They have Korean names!" .......SERIOUSLY? Just cause it is music from Korea doesn't mean that it is Kpop. Besides, if you haven't tried listening to it, how would you know that it is not Kpop? And that they sing in English (Or French. Or they just don't sing)? And most importantly, how would you know whether you would like it or not? And guess what? After they listened to it, many of them actually liked it!So yeah, now that I finally got that out of my system, I shall officially introduce you to my favourite Korean indie band ever, Glen Check.
The first time I came across them was when I heard of Disco Elevator last year? I don't really remember. It didn't really leave an impression because...I don't know I just didn't like it as much. It was just like "Oh they have indie bands like this in Korea? Cool!" and I kinda forgot about it :P Don't get me wrong, I did like the bass (I love bass.....yeah ♥) and the beat but it JUST didn't grow onto me. So after that it slipped out of my mind and I didn't hear about them until March this year when Haute Couture came out and Simon and Martina of eatyoukimchi included French Virgin Party and Battaile in their K-Crunch Indie Playlist.

After I heard French Virgin Party, I was INSTANTLY hooked. Maybe it was the beat. Maybe it was the bass. Maybe it was the cowbells. Maybe it was the funkiness of it. I just loved it. Everytime I listen to it, I feel like dancing around in my room. So I got hold of Haute Couture online and went through the whole thing. I rarely ever love ALL the songs in an album but for this, I did. I can't really choose a favourite in the album cause I kinda go crazy about one song for a period of time, then go crazy about another one. First it was French Virgin Party.
Then I moved on to replaying Naked Sun over and over again for weeks. This video makes me wanna attend one of their gigs. I loved the beginning when the ? and ! appeared with the beat. I loved it when the electric guitar entered. I loved the clapping beat. And my favourite part of the song? 2:38 mark. I love that part so so much. If I missed the beginning of it, I would actually go back just to listen to it again. Sometimes when I listen to this song, it kinda gives me the feeling that I'm a spy..on an enemy's island...in action. Yeah....I'm so strange. MOVING ON!
I got into the Racket phase after Naked Sun. This song has a totally different feel compared to Naked Sun. It is less beat heavy? Less hardcore. But still good enough to make me bob my head to the beat. I love the chorus loads even though they said they came up with it when the drummer Jeon-Yeol (who I think left. I don't know why because I can't read the cyworld post they posted about this matter cause I can't enter and I can't understand what they want me to do to be able to access it since it's all in Korean) started saying the Korean vowels (ee ah ae) when he was drunk. How interesting. I love the video too!

Now I'm currently into Au Revoir. This song is also totally different in terms of style compared to the last three songs I've mentioned. This is what I love about this album. It's a mixture of everything. This song is more on the electronic side. And it's in FRENCH! Though I can't understand shit even after that 3 months of French in the beginning of year 8.

I know Kpop is not everyone's cup of tea so I shall introduce you guys to some Korean indie or basically Korean songs that I listen to that aren't pop.Today's group would be a pretty well known project group: Clazziquai Project
I first heard of Clazziquai Project's Ping! around about summer last year and instantly fell in love with it. I'm a sucker for songs like these, stuff that are kinda electronic and have a nice catchy beat to it. Looked them up, downloaded a few others songs by them and I was basically hooked. I'm more a fan of their songs that lean towards their usual electronic style but an exception would be Dance.
